Privacy Policy

Who we are

GroundsPass is a mobile app for live, crowdsourced tennis court wait times at Grand Slam tournaments, operated by Small Dev Shop Inc ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the GroundsPass app or visit groundspass.app, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Information we collect

Account data

Email address and password (handled by our authentication provider; we never see your password in plaintext)
Account creation timestamp and last sign-in time

Location data

With your permission, GroundsPass uses your device location only while the app is in use. Location is used to:

Verify you are on the tournament grounds so we can accept your wait-time report
Show you nearby courts in the app

We do not track your location in the background. We do not store the exact coordinates of individual reports after verification — we keep the tournament and court you reported from, not your precise path.

Wait-time reports

When you submit a report, we collect the court, the reported wait, the timestamp, and a verified-on-grounds flag. Reports are shown in aggregate to other app users. Reports are not tied to your public identity.

Push notification tokens

If you opt into notifications (e.g. match alerts), we store your device's push token so we can deliver notifications via Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Device and diagnostic data

Device model, OS version, and app version
Crash reports and error logs
Aggregate usage events (screen views, feature interactions)

How we use your information

To verify, aggregate, and display estimated wait times
To authenticate your account and sync your settings across devices
To send push notifications you've opted into
To diagnose bugs, monitor stability, and improve the app
To detect and prevent abuse (e.g. fake reports, spoofed locations)
To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal data. We do not run advertising in the app. We do not use your data to train AI models.

Service providers we share data with

Supabase — authentication, database hosting, and real-time sync of reports
Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of notifications you opt into
Expo Application Services — app builds, over-the-air updates, and push infrastructure
Vercel — web hosting for groundspass.app

Permissions on your device

Location (when in use): to verify on-grounds reports and show nearby courts. You can deny or revoke this in your device settings; most features still work, but you will not be able to submit reports.
Notifications: to send match alerts you opt into. Revoking this turns off alerts.

Data retention

Account data: kept while your account is active. Deleted on request.
Wait-time reports: kept in aggregated form. Individual attribution is pruned after the tournament ends.
Diagnostic logs: retained up to 30 days.
Push tokens: removed when you uninstall the app or disable notifications.

Your rights

You can:

Access a copy of your data
Delete your account and associated data
Revoke location and notification permissions at any time from your device settings

If you are in the EU/EEA, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA, including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability. To exercise any right, email support@groundspass.app.

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed. Database access is restricted and audited. No system is perfectly secure — if you suspect a problem, email us immediately.

Children's privacy

GroundsPass is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete the account.

International users

GroundsPass is operated from the United States. If you use the app from another country, your information will be processed in the United States. By using the app, you consent to that transfer.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email before they take effect.
